Is Hi.Events really free?
Free events cost nothing. For paid tickets, Hi.Events charges 1.25% plus a small fixed amount per ticket (60¢ in the US, €0.50 in the EU, 45p in the UK, A$0.85 in Australia). This fee can be passed to buyers so organizers have zero outlay. Self-hosting is free under AGPL-3.0, though organizers run their own servers.
How do fees compare to Eventbrite?
Eventbrite charges 3.7% + $1.79 in the US, 5.9% + €0.79 in Ireland, and 6.95% + £0.59 in the UK. Hi.Events charges 1.25% plus a small fixed amount everywhere. On 250 tickets at $30 in the US, organizers keep $481 more with Hi.Events. Outside the US, Eventbrite's fees include card processing while Hi.Events' do not, so the comparison adds Stripe's rate to Hi.Events before comparing.
Can I switch from Eventbrite or another platform?
Yes, most organizers switch between events. Recreating an event takes a few minutes, then organizers point their ticket links to the new Hi.Events page. Existing orders stay on the old platform while new sales run through Hi.Events.
When do I get paid and whose Stripe account is it?
Organizers connect their own Stripe account to Hi.Events through Stripe Connect, and card payments settle directly into it as tickets sell. Hi.Events never holds the money. Payout timing follows the organizer's Stripe schedule, typically arriving well before event doors open.
Do I have to pay to self-host at all?
No. Self-hosting is free under AGPL-3.0, provided the "Powered by Hi.Events" link remains visible on all public-facing pages and any modifications are published. A commercial license removes both requirements. Logos and colors can be changed on the free version—only the notice must stay.
